I travel a lot. I enjoy ending my evening with a wee dram. Getting an evening drink from the hotel bar can be quite expensive. I usually prefer to enjoy my libation in my room and I’m always concerned that I might spill it on the way up, possibly causing me to cry in front of other adults. So when I go to the liquor store, I’ll grab twenty or thirty minis and keep them in a drawer. When I’m packing, I throw a few in for my day-ending treat. Not only is this less expensive, but you can curate your bottles for good whiskey tastings in your hotel room as well.
Is Johnny Black really that much better than Johnny Red? There’s an easy way to find out. If you can get a mini of Blue or Green, include them. You might learn something. If you go to a local distillery, see if they have minis. It’s a great way to get to know all their different expressions (types of whiskey) without buying a fifth of each. The Virginia ABCs usually have an acceptable variety of minis – better than the Ft. Belvoir Class IV. But for an amazing selection, a booze-selling Total Wine is the clear winner. Their mini selection is the best.
Buy some minis. Give’em a shot.
