Got a whiskey drinker in your life? Looking for something fun and reasonable to give them? Whiskey and Politics is here to help. Here are some suggestions:
I don’t normally add water to my neat whisk(e)y, but I think I’ve been missing out especially with the higher-proof whiskies. The next time you have a 50% ABV whiskey, take a sip then add a few drops of water and sip again. Continue until you notice a difference. Many of us like whisky’s burn, but there’s something to be learned when you cut the alcohol. This makes an excellent stocking stuffer.
Whiskey Smoker Kit with Torch - $29.99
6 Flavors Wood Chips, 2 Glasses, 2 Ice Ball Molds - Cocktail Smoker Infuser Kit, Old Fashioned Drink Smoker Kit (NO Butane)
For thirty bucks, you can’t go wrong. I’ve had a smoked manhattan at a bar and it was really something.
I can’t comment on the ice ball molds. I’ve tried several. They were all sketchy. One of the biggest problems was that I forgot they were in the freezer and left them in the mold too long (freezer burn).
Be advised that this comes w/o butane so you’ll want to include that with your gift.
It’s a pretty straight-forward gift. Somewhat extravagant, but if your office pitches in, it’s easily affordable. Your boss will love this.
No 1 & No 3 - Bourbon Barrel Aged Old Fashioned Mix & Smoked Whiskey Sour Mix - Makes 34 Cocktails
Looks like fun. According to their ad, “SIMPLE TO USE: Just add booze. Stir 1 Part Bittermilk No.1 to 4 Parts Spirit with lots of ice, and garnish with an orange peel.”
Glencairn Whisky Glass Set of 4 - $29.99
The preferred glass for whiskey connoisseurs. It concentrates the aromas at the top of the glass allowing you to get a good sense of the whisk(e)y.
Not sure I’d drink like Richard Patterson, but these glasses might help you appreciate your whiskey better.
Age Mead, Cocktails, Bourbon, Whiskey, Beer and More! Laser Engraved Mini 1L Wine Barrels
They have 1, 2, 3, and 5-liter barrels to choose from ($54 - $105)
A friend got me one of these once. It was fun. You can use it over and over again. I’ve had barrel-aged manhattans at a bar. It was amazing. If I got another one of these, I’d age manhattans. A word of caution, though. You DO NOT want these to dry out. You must always keep a liquid in them or they shrink and be useless. I burned the wood. On a positive note, it made the fireplace smell wonderful!
Whiskey Advent Calendar - Range in price from $130 to $350
The link takes you to the Amazon page with many different calendars. I’ve had several but can’t remember which ones. I’ll tell you that they’re great fun and perfect for a serious whiskey drinker. And it’s not just whiskey. The missus has given me bourbon, scotch, and even a gin advent calendar. If you’re lucky enough to receive one of these, take good notes one each expression that you taste.
