In an era defined by digital connectivity, it is unsettling to witness the growing disconnect among Americans. The nationalization of our politics has left little room for local conversations and the polarization has led to multiple societal neuroses. As individuals align themselves with national political affiliations, the common ground shared at the local level often goes unnoticed. Additionally, over the past several election cycles we’ve noticed that it is challenging to learn where to vote, who is running, and what policies local politicians intend to pursue.
Politics
What’s going on where you live
To paraphrase Noah S. Sweat, whiskey is a lubricant of conversation. What better way to enjoy a lively discussion of politics than with a pleasant dram in your hand? The goal of this group is to connect people in the DMV area with shared interests: Thoughtful conversation about political philosophy, local politics, current events, and whiskey. Although discussions about national and international events are welcome, the focus of the website’s political side is on local, county, and state issues.

Politics
No topic is politically taboo
No topic is politically taboo. The emphasis is on cultivating a space free from rudeness and aggressive behavior, where mature adults can distinguish between a healthy debate and a fruitless argument. This is not merely an on-line discussion forum. The goal is to make tangible, real-world connections through local whiskey tastings, meet-ups, and political awareness. By creating a platform that encourages face-to-face interaction, the group aims to bridge the gap between political adversaries who, at the local level, may find themselves on common ground. We believe that irrespective of political differences, a dram of whiskey in hand, and face-to-face conversations can be powerful tools in rebuilding the fabric of a fractured society.
We are firm in our Classical Liberal beliefs but emphasize the importance of fostering open discussions encompassing all political philosophies.

The Summer SourIngredients 2 oz Weldon Mills Rockfish Whiskey 1 oz lavender syrup 1 oz lemon juice Now I gotta make ‘lavender syrup’? Ugh. Here’s how to do it… Lavender Syrup 1 cup water 1 cup white sugar 1 tablespoon fresh lavender blossoms Combine water, sugar, and lavender blossoms in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 minute. Remove from heat and let syrup steep for about 30 minutes. Pour syrup into a sterilized glass jar through a mesh strainer to remove blossoms; let cool. .
